Gokarna is a small and remote holy town, with four of India’s most secluded and pristine beaches nestled nearby. It draws both pious pilgrims and hedonistic holiday makers with equal enthusiasm.The town of Gokarna is about 450 km from Bangalore. The only Shaivaite pilgrimage centre in India with Atmalinga. The Mahabaleshwara Temple in the town is one of the holiest in South India and is frequented by pilgrims. Legend says that the Atmalinga acquired by Ravana from Lord Shiva was transported here. The 1,500-year-old Mahabaleshwara temple, the most visited location in town, enshrines a finely carved stone image of Lord Shiva in standing position.

Gokarna is a village in the Uttara Kannada district of the Karnataka state, India. It is between the Gangavali and Agnashini rivers and situated along the Karwar coast by the Arabian Sea.

Panaji(GOA) is the airport closest to Gokarna. It is about 155km from Gokarna. From there one can reach Gokarna by train or road. Another alternative airport is Mangalore. From here too, one can reach Gokarna by train or road. Also we can avail Hubli airport to reach Gokarna and its of 161km journey by road.

I am very much interested to visit the place. Can you tell me when Gokarna is without much rush so that I plan to visit and pray God peacefully. By the grace of lord Shiva I could see him at 4 Jyothirlinga Places and also many Shaiva kshethras. By his blessings I am proud to say that I am now residing in Shaiva Kshethra(Karnataka state).
